Homework for Week 8 (Oct 28-Nov 1) **New Changes to Current Events**

***PLEASE READ THE WHOLE EMAIL CAREFULLY***
***THERE ARE NEW CHANGES TO THE REGULAR ASSIGNMENTS***

Seniors,

We will be working with the Economics textbook again for this coming week.  The reading will be chapters 4-7 (however, I once again cut out a lot of the reading that was not necessary)  Please read the chapters and be ready to discuss it in class.  There is also an assignment to complete. All readings and homework sheet is provided at the bottom of the email.

Both assignments are to be handed in on the second class of the week.

1st Homework: (Due for class on Thursday or Friday Oct 31-Nov 1)

Read all three chapters (27 pages total) and complete the assignment that is also attached to this email.  Please use the template prepared for you (attached to the email).  There are terms to be defined and short answer questions to answer.  Please use your own words when defining a term or answering a question.  Using the wording from the textbook will be considered plagiarism.

2nd Homework: (Due for class on Thursday or Friday Oct 31-Nov 1)

Current Events #6-
Type, print, and staple together your new Current Events assignment for the week.

***The format will change this time.***
Instead of the two CNN articles being from the "World" and "Politics" sections, you must select two articles from "Business" or "Money" sections.

Also, you are not required to read an article from The Nation this week.

To confirm, your Current Events Assignment will have two articles from CNN (both must come from either the "business" or "money" sections), and one article from NY-Times Op-Ed (either Friedman, Krugman, or Kristof).  NO ARTICLE IS NEEDED FROM THE NATION.

***Last reminder, both homeworks are to be handed in on the second class of the week.  However, be prepared to talk about the terms and the readings the first class.****

We will be working with the book, The Assault on Reason, again for this coming week.  The chapter is called "Politics of Fear", a very informative and pertinent concept that we will examine all week.  Please read the chapter and be ready to discuss it in class.

Addition to you homework due Oct 7-9

To become more aware of our roles in enacting change in our governing system, it is a necessity to first know who directly represents us.  Therefore, an addition to your homework for the first class of next week, you will look up your two senators and your congressional representative.  Add these three names below your essays that are due from the readings.

To make it easier to find out the names, go to this link:

http://whoismyrepresentative.com/

Advice... save these names because they will be needed for further assignments in the future.

Homework Assignment Due Mon-Wed (Oct 7-9)

We will be looking at the Constitution and the American System of Government. Along with the section of the US Constitution (attached in email), we will also be reading the Introduction Chapter from the book, Framed: America's 51 Constitutions and the Crisis of Governance, is written by Sanford Levinson (acclaimed Professor of Law and Political Science at University of Texas-Austin).

The chapter is 32 pages long, and the excerpt from the Constitution is 4 pages... so I recommend getting a good start early on.

Your homework assignments will always be assigned according to whether it is your first class of the week (Monday through Wednesday) or second class of the week (Thursday or Friday).  Pay close attention to which class the assignments are due.

1st Class Homework: (Due for class on Monday-Wednesday Oct 7th-Oct 9th)

Read the Introduction Chapter of Framed, it is attached to the email in PDF format.  Also, you will hand in a paper answering in essay format:

What is the "Constitution of Settlement"?
What is the "Constitution of Conversation"?
Compare and contrast the two.
Provide two questions about the reading.
Provide two key points the author is making.

The essay should not be shorter than seven sentences, and no longer than one page.

THIS WILL BE HANDED IN.
